Visakhapatnam police commissioner Sankhabrata Bagchi has ordered enhanced security arrangements across the city to ensure incident-free matches

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam is buzzing with excitement as cricket fans await Sunday’s opening T20 International between the Indian and Sri Lankan women's cricket teams after the Women in Blue lifted the historic ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025.
The five-match T20I series, scheduled from December 21 to December 30, begins with back-to-back matches in Vizag on December 21 and December 23.
Players of both the teams trained on Friday and Saturday for their opening match on Sunday.
Visakhapatnam police commissioner Sankhabrata Bagchi has ordered enhanced security arrangements across the city to ensure incident-free matches.
Women police officers have been specially deployed to safeguard the visiting teams. Large contingents of security personnel have been at the physical ticket counters.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Sana Satish Babu highlighted the importance of hosting India's first post-World Cup series. "Vizag is a new happening place. These matches build excitement among people," he said, pointing out that the city has hosted eight international matches this year, more than in any single year over the past decade.
The ACA secretary emphasized Andhra Pradesh's unique commitment to women's cricket. "AP is the only state where all constituents are women, from manager to coaches," he explained.
MP Satish Babu pointed to legendary batswoman Mithali Raj mentoring women cricket players, spending at least two to three days a week interacting with players and nurturing talent.
