Vignan’s educational institutions' vice chairman and Narasaraopet MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu said financial literacy and market awareness would play a decisive role in shaping the future leadership of the country.

Vijayawada:India’s stock markets are emerging as one of the strongest pillars of the country’s economic growth, National Stock Exchange managing director and CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan said while addressing a “Student Skilling and Investor Awareness Programme" held at Vignan’s University in Vadlamudi of Guntur district on Thursday.
The programme was jointly organised by the department of management studies of Vignan’s University, the National Stock Exchange of India Limited and the Securities and Exchange Board of India.
Highlighting the rapid transformation of India’s financial ecosystem, Chauhan said the number of investors in the country had grown from merely 10 to 15 lakh in 1994 to nearly 13 crore at present. He noted that the market capitalisation of the Indian stock market had surged from ₹3.8 lakh crore in 1994 to around ₹470 lakh crore today.
He observed that India is now the world’s fourth-largest stock market after the United States, China and Japan.
Announcing a major initiative for students, Chauhan said an NSE Skill Development Centre would soon be established at Vignan’s University. The centre would provide specialised training in trading, financial markets, investments and equity research with guidance from experts from NSE Mumbai.
Chauhan also said stock markets offer immense opportunities for startups and small entrepreneurs to mobilise funds through platforms such as “NSE Emerge”. Encouraging students to embrace challenges, Chauhan recalled his journey from IIT Bombay and IIM Calcutta to becoming part of the NSE development team during the formative years of India’s modern trading system.
SEBI corporate finance department chief general manager D. He advised investors to deal only with SEBI-authorised entities and make informed decisions based on their financial capacity and risk appetite.
Vignan’s educational institutions' vice chairman and Narasaraopet MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu said financial literacy and market awareness would play a decisive role in shaping the future leadership of the country.
