IMD Issues Orange, Yellow Rainfall Alerts For AP

VISAKHAPATNAM: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, over Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR), Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts for Tuesday. However, it issued a yellow alert on Tuesday predicting heavy rainfall over isolated places in Parvathipuram Manyam, Srikakulam, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, Eluru, West Godavari and NTR district.
The forecasts are owing to low pressure areas likely to form over north Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours, as per IMD, Amaravati. It said heavy rains and thunderstorms are possible in parts of Andhra Pradesh between Tuesday, September 2 and September 5. North coastal Andhra Pradesh is expected to receive heavy rainfall on Tuesday.
The IMD report said an upper air cyclonic circulation over Myanmar coasts and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal lay over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal on Tuesday.
The weathermen said heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam and south coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) on Wednesday. A thunderstorm accompanied by lightning is likely over NCAP, Yanam, SCAP and Rayalaseema. Strong winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph are likely at isolated places over NCAP, Yanam, SCAP and Rayalaseema on Wednesday.
Squally weather with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph are likely along and off Andhra Pradesh coast and Yanam from Tuesday to September 5.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
