ANANTAPUR: A second-year girl student from IIIT Idupulapaya in Kadapa district died by suicide in the hostel on Wednesday. She was reportedly blamed for stealing the mobile phone of a senior student at the institute.
According to the sources the victim was identified as Jameeja Khureshi native of Chirala in Prakasam district . On Tuesday evening, the mobile phone of a final-year student was found missing from the canteen of the institute. Jameeja, who was at the canteen, reportedly took the mobile phone, and the college staff expressed anger at the student for taking the mobile phone.
Hurt over the incident, Jameeja took an extreme step and died by suicide in the washroom of her hostel building. Students in the hostel building found Jammeja dead and alerted the hostel warden and institute authorities.
Idupulapaya police reached the spot, registered a case based on a complaint by the parents, and shifted the body to Pulivendula Hospital for the postmortem.
