HRF Demands Resolution Against Uranium Mining
HRF warned uranium mining would contaminate water sources, destroy forests, and endanger wildlife

Kurnool: The Human Rights Forum (HRF) on Wednesday urged the state government to pass a resolution in the State Assembly to permanently halt uranium exploration in the Kappatralla reserve forest in Kurnool district.
According to V. S. Krishna, the coordination committee member, HRF, the threat of uranium mining persists in the area still despite the government's assurance to suspend it.
A 13-member HRF team visited Kappatralla and its nearby villages sometime ago where locals strongly opposed mining, fearing severe health hazards, environmental destruction, and loss of livelihoods.
Earlier, the authorities had allowed mining by the Atomic Minerals Directorate (AMD) in a clandestine fashion. A new proposal to drill 68 borewells has raised fresh concerns among locals.
HRF warned that uranium mining would contaminate water sources, destroy forests, and endanger wildlife. They cited the devastating impact of uranium mining in Jharkhand and Kadapa as a precedent.
The forum requested the government to shift focus to sustainable energy sources like wind and solar power instead of chasing nuclear energy.
