Hotels, Resorts, Guest, Houses To Boost Tourism in Nandyal District

Government unveils major tourism infrastructure push in Nandyal district, with seaplane project, hotels, parks, and resorts on the cards.

Kurnool: Officials of Nandyal district are rolling out ambitious plans to boost tourism in the region through acquisition of lands and developing infrastructure at key locations, such as Ahobilam, Srisailam, Nandyal, Sunnipenta, Panyam and RS Rangapuram.

The district is known for its prominent pilgrimage sites, the scenic Nallamala forest and the picturesque Krishna River/ These attract a steady stream of devotees and tourists. However, the absence of adequate infrastructure has long hindered utilisation of the full potential.
The present coalition government has begun implementing plans to boost tourism in the region. A seaplane project has already been proposed. Comprehensive development works are being planned at major spiritual and tourist destinations across the district.
In addition, the government has proposed construction of three-star hotels, guest houses and resorts, which are notably absent in Nandyal district. To address this, state government has identified land in the district headquarters to construct its first three-star hotel. It will accommodate tourists and devotees who wish to nearby sites like Mahanandi, Yaganti, Bhogeshwaram, Omkaram, and the renowned Belum and Valmiki caves. The project is expected to generate employment opportunities for local youth.
In Ahobilam, 2.50 acres of land belonging to the Water Resources Department has been identified for construction of a hotel. In Sunnipenta, 50 acres out of 178 acres of vacant revenue land will be transferred to the Tourism Department for developing a large restaurant, children’s park, dormitories, and a wellness resort.
At Panyam, five acres along the four-lane highway will be used to build resorts for the convenience of truck drivers and pilgrims.
Revenue authorities are working to acquire 2.50 acres of land near the KC Canal at Paramatur village in Bandi Atmakur mandal to develop a children’s park and boating facilities. Additionally, efforts are underway to mutate lands designated for tourism development in Sanjamala, Boyavandlapalle, and Sangameswaram villages.
Further, the present government is planning to revive the glass-roofed restaurant that the TD government had constructed on the banks of the Krishna River at Sangameswaram at a cost of ₹1.30 crore. Due to lack of maintenance and usage, the restaurant had become defunct.
With public-private partnerships driving much of the proposed development, officials are confident that funds will flow in for development of additional infrastructure, which will attract additional tourists and boost local economy, including by way of employment.
“The government’s renewed focus on tourism is expected to transform Nandyal into a vibrant and sustainable travel destination,” said a senior official of the tourism department.
