Home Minister Opens Constables Training at Ongole PTC

The home minister underlined that police play a vital role in the state’s development, with constables being the frontline guardians of law and order

Nellore: Andhra Pradesh home minister Vangalapudi Anitha on Monday called upon the newly selected police constables to complete their training with dedication and serve society with integrity.

Inaugurating the police constables’ training programme at the Ongole Police Training College (PTC) by lighting the ceremonial lamp, she underlined that strong determination and discipline can help the constables achieve any goal.

Those present on the occasion included Social Welfare minister Dr. Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, district collector P. Rajababu, SP V. Harshavardhan Raju, Ongole PTC principal G.R. Radhika, NTR Police Commissionerate DCP (Admin) K.G.V. Saritha, and Ongole mayor Gangada Sujatha.

The home minister underlined that police play a vital role in the state’s development, with constables being the frontline guardians of law and order. She asked the trainees to uphold the dignity of the khaki uniform, instil confidence within public and deter criminals through professional conduct.

Anitha said 6,100 candidates have been selected from the nearly four lakh applicants, highlighting the competitiveness of the recruitment. Referring to staff shortages, she said she and HRD minister Nara Lokesh brought the issue of nearly 20,000 vacant police posts to the attention of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Responding positively, the CM assured that recruitments will be held annually. She assured that the remaining 15,000 posts will be filled soon.

The home minister thanked the Chief Minister for enhancing the training stipend from ₹4,500 to ₹12,000, calling it a major welfare measure. She said the government is promoting women across all sectors, including policing, and has appointed a dietician for police trainees for the first time.

Speaking about modern challenges, she urged trainees to build their expertise in areas, such as cybercrime and narcotics control.

Social Welfare minister Veeranjaneya Swamy advised the constables to perform their duties in a manner that builds public trust. Ongole MP Srinivasulu Reddy described constables as the backbone of the police system. Collector Rajababu, SP Harshavardhan Raju and PTC principal Radhika highlighted the importance of discipline and gaining the public’s confidence.

Radhika said 498 women constables and 193 male constables have been allotted to the Ongole PTC for training. Senior police officers and district officials attended the programme.
