Home Minister Inaugurates New Women Police Station In Tirupati

TIRUPATI: The Tirupati district police on Monday launched a women police station building near the police parade grounds. State home minister Vangalapudi Anitha and district in-charge minister Anagani Satya Prasad inaugurated the facility.
The new building, constructed at a cost of ₹2.70 crore and spread over 8,480 sq-ft, has a dedicated counselling centre, a child-friendly corner and facilities for women visiting with young children. Psychiatric services will be available twice a week, while a 24/7 cyber help centre would respond to cybercrimes, online harassment and other digital offences against women.
Addressing the gathering, the home minister said the government was giving the highest priority to the safety and protection of women and was strengthening women police stations to ensure timely police services and justice for victims. Women could approach police stations without fear or hesitation and their problems would be dealt with sensitively, she said.
The home minister said special focus is being placed on counselling to address family, marital and social issues wherever possible. The women police station was intended not only for receiving complaints and registering cases but also to help bring peace and harmony in families through counselling, she said.
Anitha said the number of crimes against women in Tirupati district has come down from 94 this time last year to 58 till now this year. Continuous police action, awareness programmes and effective policing contributed to the decline, she said.
She said the government was strengthening visible and invisible policing and giving priority to improving police infrastructure, staff welfare and the use of modern technology. Steps were also being taken to provide women police stations with their own buildings in the newly formed districts.
The home minister said a proposal to establish police Commissionerate for Tirupati was under consideration, keeping in view the increasing traffic, pilgrim movement and workload on the police department.
District SP L. Subba Rayudu said the department would continue to work towards providing women with safety, dignity and timely police assistance. He appealed to women to approach the police without fear or hesitation and make use of the services available to them.
