Home Minister Anitha Calls for Regional Development and Higher PCI

Discussions also covered various issues, including the need for marriage certificate process improvements, land-related challenges for agricultural electricity connections and the quality of liquor for the distribution.

Visakhapatnam: District-in-charge and home minister Vangalapudi Anitha has called for a vision to increase Vizianagaram district's per capita income (PCI) by fully utilizing its natural resources.

The minister held a district review committee (DRC) meeting at the collectorate in Vizianagaram on Monday, laying out a development blueprint for the district's economic and administrative landscape.

Anitha called for erasing the district's "backward" status, presenting a forward-looking strategy aligned with the Vision 2047 plan. The meeting saw discussions on critical sectors including roads and buildings, drinking water supply, groundwater management, agriculture, panchayat administration, rural employment, housing, electricity, and civil supplies.

The minister said the district review committee (DRC) meetings would now be conducted monthly, as per the chief minister's instructions. She called for steps to ensure drinking water availability throughout the summer and directed a thorough re-examination of groundwater levels.

Rajam MLA Kondru Muralimohan, Nellimarla MLA Lokam Nagamadhavi and Bobbili MLA Nayana highlighted issues of incomplete road repairs and illegal constructions encroaching on road spaces. In response, minister Kondapalli Srinivas said electricity connections should be denied to illegally constructed buildings.

The home minister asked district collector BR Ambedkar to carry out a fire audit within a month, with participation of the fire department, police and revenue staff. The audit would be conducted in different institutions such as shopping malls, cinema halls, apartments and educational institutions.

She recommended immediate action against Employment Guarantee APO Srinivasa Rao over pending complaints and called for the setting up of a special committee to settle land acquisition issues for the Bhogapuram airport project.

Anitha ordered a vigilance inquiry against the newly transferred district magistrate Meena Kumari. She asked the panchayat department to ensure better village sanitation and streetlights. Anitha warned of legal action through show cause notices in cases of non-disbursement of funds and delaying of decisions.

Discussions also covered various issues, including the need for marriage certificate process improvements, land-related challenges for agricultural electricity connections and the quality of liquor for the distribution.
