Hindupur Police Bust Robbery Gang, Recover ₹5.5 Crore Worth Gold

Police have registered additional cases against the accused in connection with other pending robberies

ANANTAPUR: Hindupur police in Sri Sathya Sai district have busted a North India–based robbery gang and recovered gold jewellery weighing 5.5 kg, valued at about `5.5 crore, along with a car, on Thursday.

Police arrested Ifthar Khan of Salampur in Rajasthan, the second accused in the case, following a special operation led by Hindupur deputy superintendent of police K. Mahesh. The other accused, Anil Kumar Parvar of Maruthi Kunj in Haryana, had been arrested earlier in August last year.

Addressing the media at Hindupur, The district SP V. Sathish Kumar said the duo was involved in a major robbery at a State Bank of India branch in the Hindupur Industrial Area in July last year. Following the incident, police identified the involvement of a North India-based gang and arrested Anil Parvar in August, recovering 2 kg of stolen gold from his possession.

Further investigation and sustained efforts by special teams led to the arrest of Ifthar Khan, resulting in the recovery of the remaining gold, taking the total seizure to 5.5 kg.

The SP said Anil Parvar was a habitual offender and had earlier been involved in the robbery at the SBI branch of JNTUA in Anantapur in 2018. He served a five-year prison term in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, but allegedly returned to bank robberies after his release.

Police have registered additional cases against the accused in connection with other pending robberies. Further investigation is under way.
