Heavy Rain Lashes Nandyal, Moderate Showers In Kurnool

In the Kurnool district, both urban and rural areas, along with Kallur, Chippagiri, and Halaharvi, received moderate rainfall over the last 24 hours. Collector P. Ranjit Basha said the district had experienced heavy rain over the past three days.

Kurnool: Heavy rain has been lashing several parts of the Nandyal district since Tuesday night, with showers continuing in some areas since Wednesday morning. Nandyal, Mahanandi, Nandikotkur, Srisailam, Banaganapalle, Allagadda and Rudravaram mandals received huge rainfall. In Bandi Atmakur, according to locals, a person was swept away in the Kundu River and he has not been traced yet.

In the Kurnool district, both urban and rural areas, along with Kallur, Chippagiri, and Halaharvi, received moderate rainfall over the last 24 hours. Collector P. Ranjit Basha said the district had experienced heavy rain over the past three days. While June and July recorded normal rainfall, August has so far seen 146.5 mm, which is 27.8% above normal in Kurnool Urban, Kurnool Rural, Kallur, Chippagiri, Halaharvi, Alur, Maddikera and Nandavaram mandals.

With forecasts indicating more heavy rain over the next two to three days, the collector instructed officials to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures. Sub collectors and RDOs were directed to inspect Sunkesula, Gajuladinne and Pandikona reservoirs in the district, while tehsildars were told to prevent accidents in riverside areas.

In Nandyal district, Kothapalle, Midthur, Nandikotkur, Atmakur, Pamulapadu and Jupadu Bungalow received heavy rains of up to 9–10 cm over the last two days. Collector G. Rajakumari alerted the administration to be prepared for heavy to very heavy rains over the next two days, as predicted by the Meteorological Department. She directed that control rooms be set up in all Tahsildar offices and urged people in riverside, and low-lying areas to stay alert. If necessary, people should move to safe locations arranged by local authorities to prevent loss of life and property.
