Heavy Rain Claims Eight Lives in AP

Vijayawada:Eight men lost their lives and two were injured in several parts of Andhra Pradesh that experienced heavy rainfall in the last two days.
The deceased were T.V. Madhusudan Rao from Vijayawada, who fell into an open manhole; Sheikh Murtaza, also from Vijayawada, who died after his vehicle hit an electro pole; Mahesh who died here when a tree fell on him; Nealapati Bharath from Guntur who was washed away in Namburu stream and Prasanthi Upendra hailing from Seethangaram village of Tadepalli mandal in Guntur district, who died while retrieving the boat from the Krishna river on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the body of an unidentified person was swept away by the floodwaters of Muneru at Penuganchiprolu in NTR district. Thota Srinivasa Rao died while another person sustained injuries when a Ganneru tree fell on them at Raghubhadarapuram near Rajamahendravaram in East Godavari district.
At Peddramabhadrapuram of Payakaraopeta of Anakapalli district, a huge tree fell on two persons riding a bike. One of them, Srinivas, died while the other, P. Sai, sustained injuries.
The state disaster management authority said there were no major incidents of building or bridge collapse in the rain-hit areas.
Farmers suffered losses. The heavy rain and floods inundated agricultural crops in nearly 69,000 hectares across 657 villages under 79 mandals in 13 districts - Guntur, Bapatla, West Godavari, NTR, Krishna, Palnadu, Eluru, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Kakinada, Kurnool, East Godavari, Anantapur and Kadapa.
As per official estimates, some 69,000 farmers have been affected. Paddy suffered inundation in 59,473 ha, Cotton-7,664ha, Blackgram-549ha, Greengram-397ha, Groundnut-257ha, Redgram-51ha and Maize, Bajra etc perished in small areas.
Agriculture authorities say that the inundated crops may not be damaged once the water starts receding. The affected farmers are entitled to get relief from the government if crop damage is above 33 per cent of their total area under cultivation.
As for horticulture crops, inundation/damage has been reported from Anantapur, Satya Sai, Krishna, NTR, Kurnool and other districts across 23 mandals and 41 villages. Crops suffering inundation or damage include banana, vegetables, turmeric, drumstick, pomegranate, chillies, yam etc in 323.25ha affecting 376 farmers.
The estimated input subsidy is Rs 99.64 lakh as per state disaster relief allocation and Rs 60.79 lakh as per NDRF standards.
With no heavy rainfall in several parts of AP, the real time data of the directorate of economics and statics show the rainfall at 9pm at the highest of 52mm at Srungavarapukota in Vizianagaram, 49.25mm Kotapadu of Eluru, 48.25mm at Pydibhimavaram of Srikakulam, 43.5mm at Munakulla of NTR, and 39mm at Tallapudi in East Godavari district.
