Heavy Rain Breaches Canals, Disrupts Traffic On Highways
Floodwater from the Budameru catchment area was being diverted into the Krishna river through the Budameru diversion canal.

Vijayawada:Heavy rain under the influence of severe cyclonic storm Murasu caused breaches in canals and streams, flooded low-lying areas and agricultural fields, and disrupted vehicular traffic on national highways in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
The worst-affected regions included parts of NTR, Bapatla, Guntur, Palnadu and the erstwhile twin Godavari districts.
A breach in the Nallamada drain in Bapatla district led to flood water entering paddy fields near Jillelamudi village. Another breach in the bund of the Nakkavagu stream near Pedanandipadu inundated villages, including Pedanandipadu and Nagulapadu.
Floodwater from the Yerravagu stream in Guntur district washed away a section of the road between Tadikonda and Kantheru. The overflowing Nallamada stream in Bapatla affected Garlapudi and Kommuru villages and hampered relief operations.
Notably, floodwater rose to nearly three to four feet on NH-16 between Tatapadu and Bollapalli Toll Plaza in Bapatla district, disrupting traffic. Similar disruption was reported near Marturu in Palnadu district, where rainwater from nearby lakes and water bodies overflowed onto the highway.
Traffic was affected after floodwater crossed a low-level causeway near Lam on the Guntur-Amaravati Road. A significant stretch of the Tadikonda-Kantheru road was washed away by the overflowing Yerravagu stream.
Water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu held a teleconference with senior officials on Wednesday to review the flood situation. Officials informed him that the Nallamada and Parchuru drains had reached their full capacity in areas including Parchuru, Bapatla and Chirala.
The minister directed the officials to maintain close vigil over the flood situation in the Budameru, Yerrakaluva, Gonelavagu, Thammileru and Yeluru streams and reservoirs. He said the Prakasam Barrage was receiving an inflow of 71,000 cusecs due to heavy rainfall in Guntur and Palnadu districts.
Floodwater from the Budameru catchment area was being diverted into the Krishna river through the Budameru diversion canal.
Ramanaidu instructed the officials to immediately drain stagnant water from agricultural fields through canals and drains.
