KAKINADA: A head constable Lanke Dhana Raju on guard duty at the EVM godown under III Town police station suffered bullet injuries in chest while cleaning his rifle on Monday.
According to III Town circle inspector K.V.S. Satyanarayana, the 45-year-old head constable had initially been taken to the Government General Hospital. Subsequently, they shifted him to a private corporate hospital, where he is reportedly stable.
III Town police have registered a case. The inspector said the injured head constable has given his statement that his rifle misfired while he had been cleaning it and the bullet hit him in the chest area.
Sources, however, said when the districts in AP had been reorganised five years ago, some of the police personnel had been transferred to agency areas. After five years, 12 personnel had been transferred to Kakinada from the agency area.
It is said Dhana Raju went into a depression when news spread that he would be transferred to Rajamahendravaram. He has already been away from his family for the past five years. His transfer to Rajamahendravaram will keep him away from the family for more time.
The accident is being attributed to his negligence under depression.
