Habitual Ganja Smuggler Detained Under PIT-NDPS Act
SPSR Nellore police invoked the PIT-NDPS Act against an alleged drug peddler to curb repeated narcotics offences.
The SPSR Nellore police have invoked the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, 1988 against an alleged habitual ganja smuggler from Anumasamudrampeta (AS Peta) mandal.
Based on a proposal submitted by Superintendent of Police Dr Ajitha Vejendla, the state revenue (excise) department issued preventive detention orders against Syed Abdul Meera Mohiddin, 33, a resident of AS Peta mandal.
Police said the accused was involved in multiple cases registered under the NDPS Act at AS Peta police station, in which a total of 1.865 kg of ganja was seized.
According to police, his repeated involvement in the alleged transportation and sale of narcotic substances posed a threat to public health and public order, warranting preventive detention under the PIT-NDPS Act.
Acting on the detention order, AS Peta sub-inspector S.K. Jilani, under the supervision of Atmakur In-charge DSP Giridhar and Sangam circle inspector V. Srinivasa Reddy, shifted the detainee to Kadapa Central Prison on Monday.
The district police said they would continue stringent action against the illegal trafficking, storage, sale and consumption of narcotic drugs and appealed to the public to share information about drug-related activities, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
