GVMC to Take Up Dog-Catching Drive for Safety of Sanitation Staff

The commissioner instructed city veterinary officer Dr N. Kishore Kumar to initiate nighttime dog-catching operations to prevent further disruptions.

Visakhapatnam: GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg has directed immediate action to address the issue of stray dogs obstructing sanitation workers during midnight cleaning operations. During a surprise inspection on the night of July 25 at Poorna Market in Zone 4, the official witnessed the challenges faced by sanitation staff and assured them that prompt measures would be taken to ensure their safety.

He emphasised the importance of regular night-time inspections to monitor urban cleanliness, having previously conducted one on July 23 in the Diamond Park and Shankaramatham areas.

During the visit, Garg enquired with sanitation workers about their work routines, equipment, uniforms and waste transportation via CLAP vehicles. Workers raised concerns over stray dogs causing fear and disrupting their duties. Responding empathetically, he urged them to continue their work with dedication and confidence, promising action to check the dog menace.

The commissioner instructed city veterinary officer Dr N. Kishore Kumar to initiate nighttime dog-catching operations to prevent further disruptions. Accordingly, on Saturday morning, stray dogs near Poorna Market were captured, vaccinated and relocated to designated safe zones.

Dr Kishore Kumar confirmed that ongoing efforts were being made to manage the stray dog population at night, ensuring the safety of both sanitation personnel and the public.
