GVMC She Teams to Enforce Fines for Littering Public Places
Ketan Garg has expressed concern over widespread littering by businesses, complexes, residents and tourists, who dump waste in open spaces, canals, roads and on beaches.

Visakhapatnam: To ensure cleanliness, beautification and public health in the city, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has launched “She” teams of its Sanitation and Health Enforcement units for identifying and penalising those not disposing waste as stipulated.
These teams are actively inspecting hotels, restaurants, food stalls, and kitchens across Visakhapatnam, seizing unhygienic food items and single-use plastics, imposing fines, and revoking licenses of those found to be in violation.
GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg has affirmed that the teams will maintain continuous vigilance to uphold sanitation standards and environmental integrity.
In particular, Ketan Garg has expressed concern over widespread littering by businesses, complexes, residents and tourists, who dump waste in open spaces, canals, roads and on beaches. Such practices not only disrupt the city’s cleanliness but also tarnish its coastal environment. To counter this, the She teams will maintain surveillance and enforce penalties: ₹1,000 for businesses and ₹500 over individuals who dump waste in public areas.
The move by GVMC comes when the International Partnership Conference and International Fleet Review are approaching. The commissioner has urged all stakeholders to segregate waste responsibly and hand it over to GVMC collection vehicles.
“Proper compliance will help avoid fines and license cancellations, while contributing to the city’s development goals. Let us work together to make Visakhapatnam a cleaner, greener, and more welcoming destination for guests, tourists and future investments,” Ketan Garg underlined.
