GVMC Launches Dial-A-Tanker Amid City Water Crisis

Visakhapatnam:The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has rolled out a series of emergency measures to address the prevailing drinking water scarcity in the city.

GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg, in a statement on Thursday, said the corporation is working on a war footing to ensure The corporation’s water supply department launched the “Dial‑A‑Tanker” service, enabling citizens to book water tankers quickly and conveniently.

The commissioner noted that the service received an overwhelming response on its very first day, with approximately 245 bookings registered at the corporation’s city operations centre by 7pm. A special action plan has been put in place to ensure timely delivery of water to the needy.

The corporation has introduced an online water tanker booking facility through its Citizen portal. This digital platform allows residents to make online payments, obtain a unique booking reference number, and track the status of their requests without visiting any GVMC office.

Ketan Garg emphasised that all bookings will be processed strictly on a ‘First‑In, First‑Out’ basis to maintain transparency and fairness.

For effective implementation, executive engineers, deputy executive engineers, and assistant engineers have been deployed for continuous supervision across 11 identified areas.

The COC has adopted a scientific mapping system to identify water filling points and supply locations, ensuring efficient deployment of tankers and faster delivery.

The commissioner said all GVMC departments are working in close coordination to prevent any disruption in supply. He appealed to citizens to make optimum use of the service, conserve water, and cooperate with the corporation during the ongoing scarcity.

He reiterated GVMC’s commitment to strengthening the city’s drinking water system by leveraging modern technology and ensuring transparent, citizen‑friendly service delivery.
