GVMC Deputy Mayor Selection Sparks Intense Competition Among Corporators
GVMC deputy mayor selection sparks intense competition among corporators

Visakhapatnam:The race for the GVMC deputy mayor post has intensified as the NDA coalition corporators seek support from the party leaders and public representatives ahead of the election, scheduled for May 19.
With GVMC Mayor Peela Srinivasa Rao recently elected following a no-confidence motion against Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari and Jiyyani Sridhar, the deputy mayor selection has become a focal point of political manoeuvring.
At a TD Politburo meeting in Amaravati on Wednesday, Vizag MLAs, the GVMC Mayor and the VMRDA chairperson met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to discuss key civic issues in Vizag. They collectively decided to leave the final selection of the deputy mayor to the CM.
The NDA coalition corporators are vying for the position. Yadava community leaders, following the removal of Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari, are pushing for representation with corporators Molly Hemalatha (Ward 5), Golagani Mangaveni (Ward 18) and Bommidi Ramana (Ward 90) among the contenders.
Meanwhile, Kapu community corporators advocate for their leadership share, including Gandham Srinivasa Rao (Ward 76) and Balla Srinivasa Rao (Ward 94).
Jana Sena floor leader Bhisetti Vasanthalakshmi is actively seeking a leadership role, but internal discussions could lead to support for other party corporators.
As political negotiations become more intense, the decision from the TD high command is anticipated to play a significant role in determining the deputy leadership within the GVMC.
