GVMC bags 2 state-level Swachha Andhra awards

Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation secured two state-level honours at the Swachha Andhra Awards-2026, presented during the Swarnandhra-Swachhandhra Awards Ceremony in Vijayawada on Friday as part of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations.
GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg received the awards from chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. The corporation was recognised in the Swachha Municipalities category for urban local bodies with populations exceeding three lakhs and in the Swachha Government Offices category.
Y Nagaraju of the GVMC West Zone also received a state-level award in the Swachhata Warriors category. Additional commissioner Palli Nallanayya and West Zone commissioner B Hemavathi attended the ceremony.
Ketan Garg said the recognition reflected the collective efforts of residents, sanitation workers, officials, employees and Swachhata Warriors. He particularly praised sanitation workers for their dedication to maintaining cleanliness and public health.
He said the government office award acknowledged GVMC’s focus on sanitation and maintenance at its headquarters and other offices.
The commissioner added that the Swarnandhra-Swachhandhra initiative was raising public awareness about cleanliness, sanitation and environmental protection while supporting the state government’s Vision-2047 goals.
Calling the awards an added responsibility, Ketan Garg said GVMC would continue working with residents, voluntary organisations and other stakeholders to make Visakhapatnam cleaner, greener and healthier.
