Guntur Planning Upgraded Urban Corridors, Rejuvenated Water Bodies

The urban tanks too will be rejuvenated

VIJAYAWADA: Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) is accelerating the city’s transformation with development of a comprehensive urban corridor and restoration of water bodies.

Municipal commissioner K. Mayur Ashok said the civic body is preparing special action plans, with a focus on upgrading major roads, junctions, and water bodies. He said inputs will be taken from public representatives before putting the action plans into place.

At a review meeting organised at the GMC headquarters on Saturday, Mayur Ashok, along with Guntur East MLA Mohammad Naseer and Guntur West MLA Galla Madhavi, examined a series of development proposals prepared by the Andhra Pradesh Urban Infrastructure Asset Management Limited (APUIAML).

The key proposals outlined by APUIAML include development of major arterial roads leading into the city and modernisation of critical traffic junctions. Among the flagship projects is the proposed redevelopment of the P.V.K. Naidu Market into a multi-storey complex. It will have a double cellar, with the ground and first floors dedicated to a vegetable market. The upper three floors will be developed into commercial spaces.

The commissioner highlighted initiatives to strengthen the city’s drainage infrastructure, including Ambedkar Vagu and Pikkalavagu. The urban tanks too will be rejuvenated.

Mayur Ashok directed officials to finalise the project designs after consultations with the district collector, who is also the special officer of GMC, as well as elected representatives.

Those who attended the meeting included senior engineering officials and APUIAML representatives.
