Guntur Minor Girl Rescued After 90 Days; Accused Detained in Karnal, Haryana
The case had become a major challenge for Andhra Pradesh Police after the accused allegedly used social media to lure the 15-year-old Class 10 student.
Karnal: In a significant development in the kidnapping case of a minor girl from Guntur who had been missing for more than 90 days, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has rescued the girl and detained the accused, Shaik Jhan Saida, in Karnal, Haryana. He was reportedly taken into custody from a hotel there.
The case had become a major challenge for Andhra Pradesh Police after the accused allegedly used social media to lure the 15-year-old Class 10 student. He had evaded authorities for nearly three months, travelling through Parchur in Bapatla, Nellore, Coimbatore, Palakkad in Kerala, and Hyderabad, before finally being tracked down in Haryana.
The girl's father had filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court. During the hearing, the High Court expressed strong displeasure over lapses in the police investigation and pulled up state DGP Harish Kumar Gupta over the issue, posting the case for further hearing on September 7.
Following the filing of the case, Guntur SP Vakul Jindal constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), comprising members from the Pattabhipuram Police Station, to trace the girl. After an extensive search while tracking the accused's movements through SIM card data and facial recognition technology, the SIT team was able to locate and detain Shaik Jaan Saida in Haryana.
