GST Officials Hail AP’s AI-Driven Tax Administration

Senior officials of the GST Council Secretariat have appreciated Andhra Pradesh’s AI-driven tax administration and said the model could serve as a reference for the Centre and other states.

Additional secretary Pankaj Kumar and joint secretary D.P. Mishra, who visited Andhra Pradesh for two days on August 10 and 11, called on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday.

The officials appreciated the efforts of the AP commercial tax department to strengthen tax administration and increase revenue through AI-driven initiatives. They said the level of AI innovation achieved by the AP’s department could serve as a reference model for the central government and other states.

The AI-driven tax administration, they said, could help ease and speed up business work while increasing revenue for both the state and the central government.

The chief minister thanked the officials for their visit and observations. He said AP had been at the forefront of technology-led transformation, from the telecom and IT revolutions to highways and AI-driven governance. The state, he said, is ready to extend the required cooperation so as to take the initiatives forward.

Naidu said greater cooperation from the central government and the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) could help scale up the state's AI-driven tax administration systems in keeping with its commitment to the ‘Speed of Doing Business and Ease of Doing Business’.

The GST officials visited the commercial tax department on August 10. Chief commissioner of state tax A. Babu and senior department officials gave live demonstrations of the department’s AI-driven initiatives in returns-scrutiny, audit, inspection and AI-based legal case management.

The officials were also briefed on technology-driven endeavours including AI-enabled dashboards and the use of GST data for real-time economic analysis, as part of the state’s broader Real Time Governance initiatives.
