VIJAYAWADA: The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Vijayawada recovered a bag containing ₹7 lakh in cash and a gold-plated wristwatch after analysing CCTV footage and technical evidence. The valuables were handed over to their owner on Sunday.

The complainant, Pamidimukkala Srikrishna Goutham, 67, a retired teacher from Buranpuram in Khammam district, was travelling to Guntur on the Konark Express (train No. 11019) on Saturday. He had withdrawn ₹7 lakh from his provident fund account to purchase gold ornaments.

At around 9.35 am, shortly before the train reached Vijayawada railway station, the bag accidentally slipped from his hand and fell off the train as it moved slowly along the outer line.

Goutham approached the Vijayawada GRP police station and informed inspector P. Kanaka Rao. GRP crime team members, Railway Protection Force personnel and RPF Crime Intelligence Branch staff examined evidence and footage from nearly 50 CCTV cameras covering about 10 km.

The investigation led police to Lakku Chinakasayya of Old RR Pet in Vijayawada. Police recovered the entire cash amount and the approximately two-gram gold-plated wristwatch from him.

On Sunday, inspector Kanaka Rao handed over the valuables to Goutham at the GRP police station.
