VIJAYAWADA: The sacred precincts of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam (Durga temple) atop Indrakeeladri witnessed a grand spectacle on Friday as the fifth and final Sravana Sukravaram festivities were observed with devotion and splendour. Thousands of devotees, particularly women, thronged the temple for the auspicious darshan of Goddess Kanaka Durga, marking the culmination of the holy month’s Friday rituals.
Temple executive officer V.K. Seena Naik explained that with the significance of the concluding Sravana Friday, devotees in large numbers participated in the special Kumkumarchana. To accommodate the crowd, the temple authorities organised the ritual in two sessions, the first between 7 am and 9 am and the second from 10 am to 11:30 am. Officials ensured smooth conduct of rituals and darshan without inconvenience to the devotees. Drinking water and other basic facilities were made available to devotees waiting for darshan.
Devotees believe that darshan of the Goddess during the sacred Sravana Fridays brings prosperity and well-being. Participating in Kumkumarchana, in particular, is thought to bless them with timely marriages, employment opportunities, progeny, and good health.
The Indrakeeladri temple wore a festive look throughout the day, as chants, rituals, and the unbroken stream of devotees reflected the unwavering faith in the Goddess during this auspicious period.
Following the rituals, devotees were served free prasadam in a special queue system for nearly 16 hours. Continuous annadanam was also organised, adding to the spiritual fervour of the occasion.
