Govt Lifts Power True-Up Burden: Anam
He said, the present government would bear an annual burden of 4,497 crore to ensure consumers are not affected

Nellore: Endowments minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy on Sunday said the government’s decision to completely waive electricity true-up charges has relieved people of a major financial burden imposed by the previous government.
Speaking at the Mee Bhoomi – Mee Hakku (Your Land – Your Right) programme at Perumallapadu village in Chejerla mandal, the minister said the earlier regime had collected 32,166 crore as true-up charges over five years.
In contrast, he said, the present government would bear an annual burden of 4,497 crore to ensure consumers are not affected. He added that the waiver would benefit consumers in the Tirupati power distribution region (APSPDCL) to the extent of 1,551.69 crore.
The minister also participated in the distribution of new pattadar passbooks and said the initiative was aimed at restoring farmers’ confidence by ensuring clear and legal ownership of the land they cultivate. He alleged that just three months before the elections, the previous government altered the passbooks of 35 lakh farmers, creating confusion over land rights of nearly one crore farmers.
Accusing former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of misusing `650 crore of public funds during land re-surveys, Anam said photographs of the former CM were even printed on survey boundary stones. In Nellore district alone, he said, passbooks bearing political images were distributed to over 1.05 lakh farmers in 235 villages, including 5,486 passbooks in 13 villages of Atmakur constituency, all of which are now being replaced with legally valid documents.
The minister announced the sanction of new power substations at Annareddypalem in Sangam mandal and Perumallapadu in Chejerla mandal, besides `1.50 crore for the reconstruction of the ancient Siva temple at Perumallapadu.
He said the government aims to overhaul the revenue system by December 2026, ensure legal security for farmers and deliver transparent governance.
Local sarpanch Talapaneni Narsamma, RDO Pavani, revenue officials and public representatives attended the programme.
The idea is right, but the headline needs a small tweak to sound sharper, more newspaper-style, and grammatically clean.
