Govt Engineering College to Be Set at Atmakur
This college will be the second in the state, after the college in Kuppam, to offer courses in Artificial Intelligence (AI) specifically in Machine Learning and Data Science.

Nellore: A new government engineering college under Vikrama Simhapuri University is to be established at Atmakur in the Nellore district, starting operations from the academic year 2025-26.
This college will be the second in the state, after the college in Kuppam, to offer courses in Artificial Intelligence (AI) specifically in Machine Learning and Data Science.
While its permanent campus is being constructed on a 15-acre site in Atmakur—expected to be completed within two years—the college will initially operate out of the VR Institute of Post Graduate Services (VRIPS) in Nellore. It will function as a self-financing institution, utilizing internal resources and donor contributions, thereby avoiding any burden on the government.
The college will offer engineering degree programs in Computer Science and Engineering, IT, ECE, AI – Machine Learning and AI – Data Science. Each program will have an intake of 60 students, with all courses being self-financed. The college has already been included in the web counseling process for the 2025–26 academic year.
Endowments minister and Atmakur MLA Anam Ramanarayana Reddy said that the settin up of the college was part of the promises made by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during the 2024 elections.
The Chief Minister approved the proposal during a visit to Atmakur, and HRD and IT minister Nara Lokesh also extended support for the same.
The minister noted that the college would greatly benefit students from regions like Udayagiri and Badvel, where access to higher technical education is limited.
He added that the proposal had been under consideration since 2008, and thanked the Chief Minister and HRD minister for helping bring it to fruition.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Anam Ramanarayana Reddy also highlighted his earlier educational initiatives in the region, including the establishment of an Agricultural Polytechnic at Somasila, a Polytechnic in Atmakur, and ITI institutes in Atmakur and Sangam.
“These institutions have helped students develop vocational skills,” he said, adding, “The engineering college will provide more opportunities for higher education and career growth.”
