Centre Clears Rs 1,490 Support Price for Totapuri Mangoes in Andhra Pradesh

Under the scheme, farmers will be compensated if they sell their produce below the fixed Market Intervention Price (MIP) of Rs 1,490.73 per quintal.

Vijayawada: In a major relief for Totapuri mango farmers, the Centre has agreed to procure 1.62 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of the fruit at Rs 1,490.73 per quintal for the 2025–26 marketing season under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS).

Following a series of letters from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu seeking intervention on the issue, the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare approved the implementation of Price Deficiency Payment (PDP) under the MIS for Totapuri mangoes.

According to the approval, the maximum coverage quantity for the PDP will be 1,62,500 metric tonnes (25% of the estimated production of 6.5 lakh metric tonnes). The market intervention price has been fixed at Rs 1,490.73 per quintal.

The maximum differential payment between the intervention price and sale price will be up to 25 per cent of the intervention price, amounting to Rs 372.68 per quintal. This amount will be equally shared by the Centre and the Andhra Pradesh government in a 50:50 ratio.

The price deficiency payment scheme will be implemented for 30 days from the date of the first transaction. The state government will be required to notify the list of traders eligible for coverage under the scheme.
