Governor, Naidu Congratulate Gajapathi Raju
Raju's political career began in 1978 when he was elected as an MLA from the Vizianagaram Assembly constituency representing the Janata Party.

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer extended his congratulations and best wishes to Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju on being appointed as the Governor of Goa. “I wish Ashok Gajapathi Raju a successful and fruitful tenure as Governor of Goa,” he said.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also congratulated Raju, describing it as a proud moment for the people of Andhra Pradesh. “I sincerely thank President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” the Chief Minister said.
Speaking at his residence in Vizianagaram following the announcement, Ashok Gajapathi Raju said, “I have never craved positions, but once I am entrusted with a responsibility, I will discharge it with full commitment. I consider it an honour and a responsibility to uphold the pride of the Telugu people. No one should feel disheartened by defeat—it is an opportunity to learn and grow. I am happy to get another chance to serve the nation and thank everyone who congratulated me.”
Raju's political career began in 1978 when he was elected as an MLA from the Vizianagaram Assembly constituency representing the Janata Party. He later joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) after its formation in 1982 by N.T. Rama Rao. He went on to serve as an MLA six times—in 1983, 1985, 1989, 1994, 1999, and 2009. In 2014, he was elected to the Lok Sabha and served as Union Civil Aviation Minister.
