Government Accelerates Compassionate Appointments in Power Sector

Ravi Kumar said that since the formation of the coalition government, nearly 500 eligible candidates have been provided employment under the compassionate appointment scheme

VIJAYAWADA: The coalition government has stepped up compassionate appointments in the power sector to support families of deceased employees, energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said on Friday.

At a programme held at the AP Secretariat in Velagapudi, Amaravati, the Minister, along with Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, distributed appointment letters to 27 family members of employees who died in power sector-related accidents.

Ravi Kumar said that since the formation of the coalition government, nearly 500 eligible candidates have been provided employment under the compassionate appointment scheme. He said the government is now making appointments based on educational qualifications, including Junior Engineer posts, instead of restricting candidates to junior assistant roles.

The minister said the Chief Minister had approved age relaxation to accommodate both over-age and under-age candidates from affected families. Compassionate appointment drives will be conducted once every three months to ensure timely relief, he added. Training is also being imparted to staff at the Centre of Excellence in Visakhapatnam.

Vijayanand reiterated the government’s commitment to employee welfare and safety and stressed the need for continuous skill upgradation.

The programme was attended by MLAs Ashok Reddy and Narayana Reddy, APCPDCL CMD Pulla Reddy, APGENCO directors and senior officials.
