Gouthu Latchanna’s Services Remembered On 116th Birth Anniversary

“His inspiring life is ideal for everyone and it is our duty to remember his sacrifices”: Collector Dr S. Venkateshwar

NELLORE: The 116th birth anniversary of freedom fighter and social reformer Dr Sardar Gouthu Latchanna was celebrated on a grand note at the district collectorate in Tirupation on Saturday.

Collector Dr S. Venkateshwar paid floral tributes to the portrait of the revolutionary leader. BC welfare department officials and leaders of various welfare associations were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, the collector recalled that Dr Latchanna, popularly known as “Sardar”, was a stalwart in India’s freedom struggle and a dedicated his life to fight for the welfare of marginalised and backward communities.

“His inspiring life is ideal for everyone and it is our duty to remember his sacrifices,” he said. Dr Latchanna, hailing from Visakhapatnam district, actively participated in the freedom movement and later dedicated himself to social justice, farmers’ welfare, and the upliftment of weaker sections.

Revered as a revolutionary leader, he remained committed to public welfare throughout his life, the collector stressed. BC welfare leaders stated that it was heartening that, after the formation of the coalition government, the state has, for the first time, officially organised Latchanna’s birth anniversary celebrations across Andhra Pradesh in recognition of his relentless efforts for social justice and the empowerment of backward communities.

The event was attended by District Goud Corporation director Tummala Changayya, assistant BC welfare officer Jyotsna, district information & public relations officer Guruswami Shetty, collectorate AO Ramesh Babu, Tirupati district BC welfare association president Nagaraju, leaders Kiran, Venkata Manibabu, Manushekhar, Mallikarjuna, Ramarao and several staff from the social welfare department.
