Google to Deploy AI-Driven Transformation Across India
Google CEO Sundar Pichai shared details about the company's first-ever Google AI hub in Visakhapatnam. Pichai said he discussed the project with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlighted how it will help accelerate AI innovation and support India's growing digital economy

Vijayawada: Global IT giant, Google, has made a historical announcement about establishment of its Artificial Intelligence hub in Visakhapatnam, enabling the firm to deploy its full AI stack. This would help accelerate AI-driven transformation across the country, Google stated at a Bharat AI Shakti event it hosted in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Present at the event were Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, IT minister Nara Lokesh, Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Ashwini Vaishnav and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian.
Naidu said this was an auspicious day for all. The Google presence would make Visakhapatnam the nation’s first Artificial Intelligence hub. Naidu said, “The real-time and historical data will help with quick decision-making. Prime Minister Modi is now thinking of a global AI conference in India in February 2026. This is now our project and the state government would extend full support to Google to make it successful,” Naidu said.
The CM noted, ”I had advocated the concept of having 'One IT professional for one family' and am now promoting the 'One family – one entrepreneur' message. It is the time to work smart with advanced technology. We brought Microsoft to Hyderabad Now we are bringing Google to Visakhapatnam. Innovations are taking place in technology.”
“Digital connectivity, data centres, AI and real-time data collections are important. AP is at the forefront in embracing technology. A developed India by 2047 is our goal.”
Lokesh said the arrival of Google data centre in Visakhapatnam was made possible with the support of Prime Minister Modi. The state government has been rendering services through real-time governance and Google will further help to enhance the services.
He predicted transformative changes in AP. Youngsters should be ready for the next-level revolution. “This is a historical event for both AP and Bharath, which would help with economic empowerment at the ground level and enable India to become an AI-powered nation.”
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the establishment of Google data centre Visakhapatnam with an investment of 15 billion US dollars would be the largest investment in India to date and is aligned with the Indian government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision to accelerate the expansion of AI-driven services.
Kurian said Visakhapatnam would emerge as a global connectivity hub with the laying of undersea cables. The data centre would pave the way for global AI infra experts to link with India’s own AI mission. This would pioneer a generational shift in AI capability, he said.
Sitharaman said the setting up of the Google data center in Visakhapatnam was achieved with progressive policies and dynamic decisions of both the Centre and the state.
Ashwini Vaishnav said the global partnership in digital infrastructure goes a long way in India’s infrastructure development. He said skilling of IT professionals is important for the development of an AI hub under the AI mission. He suggested making Andaman a sea cable hub for global internet data transformation.
