Godavari Water to Reach Anakapalli in September First Week, Says CM
He underlined that establishment of one data centre would expand to five centres and create employment for lakhs of AI professionals

VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday disclosed that River Godavari water will reach Anakapalli through the Polavaram Left Canal in the first week of September, strengthening irrigation and drinking water supply in the district.
Addressing the Swarnandhra-Swachh Andhra programme at Alamanda Kodur in Anakapalli district, the CM said the water released would be utilised to fill ponds in the district. Responding to concerns over water requirements of the proposed data centres, Naidu said all the centres put together would require 3.5 TMC of water. The Polavaram canal would be sufficient to supply this water. He underlined that establishment of one data centre would expand to five centres and create employment for lakhs of AI professionals.
The Chief Minister said NTR reservoir works would be taken up at a cost of ₹29 crore. The Raiwada project would be completed to provide irrigation and drinking water. He pointed out that ₹ 2,250 crore have been spent on development works in the state over the past two years. Naidu said Anakapalli is poised to become a major industrial district, with steel, pharma, aluminium and IT industries. He referred to the construction of ArcelorMittal Steel City and the arrival of data centres and other industries. He said the inauguration of ASR Airport has strengthened the aspirations of the people in North Andhra. He said plans are under way to develop an industrial township on 10,000 acres and establish a skill centre to train local youth.
The CM stressed the need for clean surroundings and social responsibility. He asked people to participate in cleanliness drives on the third Saturday of every month. He called on villages to become zero-waste communities. He highlighted initiatives to dispose of 143 lakh metric tonnes of garbage over two years and convert waste into gas and fertilisers. He praised sanitation workers, government employees, and voluntary organisations for their contribution to cleanliness.
On political accountability, Naidu asked people to reject the influence of money in elections and support good leadership. He alleged that irregularities in liquor sales, land titling and recruitment examinations had frequently occurred during the previous government’s tenure from 2019 to 2024.
The Chief Minister said his government is working to address these issues and bring transparency in DSC appointments. He warned that those responsible for irregularities in Group-I evaluation would face legal action. On welfare measures, he said steps are being taken to reduce economic inequalities and improve living standards. Under Deepam-2.0, the government plans to deposit the cost of three gas cylinders into the accounts of women every four months.
Naidu pointed out that government schools are being strengthened, so much so that there is a growing trend of students moving from private to government schools. He reiterated his vision of making Andhra Pradesh a developed state by 2047 with higher per capita income and improved living standards for the poor.
