Godavari, Krishna Rivers Continue to be in Full Spate
As at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram continued to discharge 13.25 lakh cusecs of Godavari River water

Vijayawada: AP’s two major rivers Godavari and Krishna are continuing to be in full spate owing to heavy inflows of water from upstream projects following the rainfall in upper catchment areas in Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka during the past few days.
As at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram continued to discharge 13.25 lakh cusecs of Godavari River water. The second flood warning that had been issued just before 3:00 a.m. on Friday is continuing. However, intensity of the flow is decreasing, giving relief to people living in the low-lying areas along the course of the river and those living on island villages and agency areas.
Eluru district administration, along with the ITDA, arranged essential supplies, drinking water, and quality food for the flood-hit people at Velerupadu mandal, apart from taking up flood relief measures.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district administration has initiated measures to evacuate women in an advanced stage of pregnancy to the nearby health centres for safety. A close vigil is being maintained to ensure that people do not get into the river for swimming, fishing or bathing.
The Prakasam Barrage over Krishna River had been discharging 4.33 lakh cusecs of water 8:00 p.m. The first warning remained in force till late on Friday night. However, the water level is falling with inflows from Pulichintala and upstream projects getting reduced.
The high alert already issued is still continuing all along the Krishna River course.
