Second Flood Warning Issued At Dowleswaram Barrage

At 8.40 pm, the river crossed the second warning level of 13.75 feet, with a discharge of over 13.13 lakh cusecs into the Bay of Bengal. Water Resources Department officials expect the discharge to rise to nearly 15 lakh cusecs by Sunday night.

Officials deployed for flood duty have taken charge at vulnerable embankments, where flood-fighting material has been positioned to prevent breaches and protect nearby habitations and agricultural fields.

District administrations in the erstwhile Godavari districts have directed all departments, including police, revenue, water resources, roads and buildings, health, agriculture, rural water supply, fisheries, transport, civil supplies, animal husbandry, energy and fire services, to implement flood preparedness measures as per the flood manual.

AP State Disaster Management Authority director Prakhar Jain said water levels at Bhadrachalam had begun receding slightly and the discharge at Dowleswaram was expected to reduce over the next few hours. He advised residents of island villages and low-lying areas to remain vigilant. Three NDRF and three SDRF teams have been deployed in the affected districts for rescue operations.

Meanwhile, inflows into major reservoirs continued to improve. Srisailam reservoir now holds 66.98 tmc ft against its gross capacity of 215.81 tmc ft, with an inflow of 1.38 lakh cusecs. Nagarjuna Sagar has 136.99 tmc ft of water against a capacity of 312.05 tmc ft, while Pulichintala reservoir holds 29 tmc ft against 45.77 tmc ft. Prakasam Barrage has 2.98 tmc ft of water against its capacity of 3.07 tmc ft, with an inflow of 5,618 cusecs and an outflow of 5,433 cusecs.
