Godavari Floods Isolate Villages; Evacuations Ongoing
The officials said that if the water levels are recorded at 50 feet at Bhadrachalam, it will affect Kukkunuru and Velerupadu.

Kakinada: The Godavari River is receiving floodwaters, and the water levels reached the Polavaram Project.
The Polavaram Project officials discharged 5,52,343 cusecs of floodwaters to the downstream Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram, where the same waters were discharged by lifting 175 gates. The islet villages like Udimudi Lanka, G.Pedapudi Lanka, Arigelavari Peta, and Burugu Lanka have been surrounded by the floodwaters for the past 20 days. These villagers are moving on the boats to go to headquarters in P. Gannavaram mandal. The students are also sailing on the boats to go to their schools.
The revenue officials were alerted in the Kukkunuru and Velerupadu mandals of Eluru District. The officials said that if the water levels are recorded at 50 feet at Bhadrachalam, it will affect Kukkunuru and Velerupadu. In the Kukkunuru mandal, the people were evacuated 10 days back, and they were given shelters at R&R colonies. According to the officials, they will not return for four or five months, till the flood season ends.
