Glow Garden Illuminates Tirupati's Vinayak Sagar Under Smart City Mission

“Glow animals and flowers are intended to enhance the visitor experience. We’re also exploring similar lighting installations at other important locations in the city” : Municipal commissioner N. Maurya

TIRUPATI: Vinayak Sagar lake in Tirupati has been given a vibrant makeover with the inauguration of a Glow Garden, developed under the Smart City Mission. This new visual and recreational feature is aimed at enriching public spaces in the temple city while offering a fresh attraction for both residents and visiting pilgrims.

The Glow Garden, located at the park adjoining Vinayak Sagar on Karakambadi Road, was inaugurated on Saturday night by MLA Arani Srinivasulu and municipal commissioner N. Maurya. Built at a cost of ₹1.25 crore, the garden includes illuminated LED trees, glowing artificial animals, and decorative lighting structures, designed to appeal particularly to families and children during evening hours.

“This is part of the phased development of Vinayak Sagar. We’ve already restored the walking track, reopened the swimming pool, and ensured the availability of public toilets. The glow garden adds a new visual dimension,” said MLA Arani. He also revealed that plans are underway to install a “Natya Vinayaka” statue at the centre of the lake, inspired by the Buddha statue at Hyderabad’s Hussain Sagar.

The commissioner stated that the facility aligns with the Smart City goals of developing public spaces that are safe, accessible, and aesthetically pleasing. “Glow animals and flowers are intended to enhance the visitor experience. We’re also exploring similar lighting installations at other important locations in the city,” she said.

Glow Gardens are becoming a common feature in Smart City projects across India, intended to create interactive and visually engaging urban environments. The Tirupati garden integrates LED-lit sculptures, themed walkways, and soft lighting, making the area attractive and safe for visitors after dark.

The contract was awarded to M/s Modern Stage Service, New Delhi, for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the lighting systems. The agency will also manage operations and maintenance for three years, including a two-year defect liability period.

To maintain cleanliness and environmental integrity, the authorities are working to prevent drainage water and garbage from entering the lake. Commissioner Maurya added that a single-entry access system is also being planned to streamline visitor movement.
