Global Experts, CWC Officials to Review Polavaram Dam Designs

Vijayawada: A three-member international panel of experts, along with senior officials from the Central Water Commission (CWC), Polavaram Project Authority (PPA), Union Ministry of Jal Shakti and other agencies, will hold crucial discussions on the designs and investigation reports of Gap-2 of the earth-cum-rock-fill (ECRF) dam. The review, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, will also cover construction activities, including planning for mobilisation of machinery, materials and equipment.
The experts — David B. Paul, Gian Franco Di Cicco and Sean Hinchberger — joined CWC chief engineer S.S. Bakshi, CWC director Rakesh Toteja, PPA member-secretary M. Raghuram and Union Ministry of Jal Shakti deputy commissioner Gaurav Singhal in visiting the Polavaram project site on Friday. They inspected the buttress dam, Gap-1 of the ECRF dam, diaphragm wall and other key components of the project.
