GHMC Conducted Raids On Private Hostels And Issued Notices For Violations

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Friday issued notices and shut down hostel kitchens in Ameerpet, Ashoknagar and Dilsuknagar during a special inspection of 58 private hostels. A total penalty of `2,45,500 was imposed for various violations.
A special enforcement team formed by GHMC conducted raids on hostels found operating in violation of food safety, sanitation, town planning, fire safety and other regulatory norms. Many of these establishments cater to working men, women and students.
Officials reported that several hostels were using cellars and parking spaces for commercial activities, displaying unauthorised hoardings, serving substandard food prepared in unhygienic conditions and overcrowding rooms while neglecting basic facilities like proper toilets.
In Ashoknagar, 20 hostels were inspected. Two were shut down for operating without an FSSAI licence and for poor hygiene. Notices were served to eight hostels for operating without trade licences, and nine were fined a total of `37,500.
In Dilsuknagar, of the 23 hostels inspected, two were closed for lacking FSSAI licences. Seven were issued notices and 11 were fined a total of `23,000 for not holding trade licences. In Ameerpet, all 15 inspected hostels were found to be operating without trade licences. A penalty of `1,85,000 was imposed and one kitchen was shut down for functioning without a licence.
