German Tents Replace Old Cottages at Tayda Jungle Bells
Established in 2001 as the state’s first eco-tourism project, Jungle Bells was a collaborative effort between the tourism and forest departments aimed at providing nature-based retreats.

Visakhapatnam: Tayda jungle bells, situated in the lush forests of Ananthagiri mandal in the ASR district, are undergoing significant renovations to enhance their status as a premier eco-tourism destination. This initiative is being led by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC), which is modernising the site by replacing its ageing infrastructure with German-style tents.
Established in 2001 as the state’s first eco-tourism project, Jungle Bells was a collaborative effort between the tourism and forest departments aimed at providing nature-based retreats. Situated along the scenic Araku-Visakhapatnam Ghat road, the resort has historically attracted visitors seeking tranquility in the heart of the forest. However, 23 wooden cottages, built over two decades ago, have deteriorated due to wear and tear.
To revitalise the resort, officials have decided to retain six of the original cottages, four of which are older and two of which are newly constructed, and replace the remaining 17 with German-engineered tents. These fireproof tents, each costing Rs 13 lakh, promise to provide enhanced safety and comfort. So far, 14 tents have already been constructed, with more to be completed in phases.
District tourism officer G. Dasu confirmed that Rs 7.5 crore has been allocated for the Jungle Bells upgrade. This project is part of a larger Rs 46.2 crore investment in tourism infrastructure throughout the region. Other projects include the renovation of Mayuri and Halitha Veli Resorts in Araku for Rs 16.9 crore, the renovation of Halitha Resorts in Ananthagiri for Rs 3.8 crore, and the development of a tent city in Chompi village, Kothavalasa, for Rs 18 crore.
