Visakhapatnam: The Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC) in Visakhapatnam has revised the prices of coffee to be purchased from tribal farmers during the 2024–2025 fiscal year.

The initial pricing had been ₹350 per kg of Arabica Parchment coffee, ₹230 per kg of Arabica Cherry coffee and ₹160 per kg of Robusta Cherry coffee. However, in light of rising international coffee prices and a commitment to the welfare of tribal coffee farmers, the GCC has announced revised rates of ₹400 per kilogram for both Arabica Parchment and Arabica Cherry coffee.

In addition, GCC has completed the organic certification process for coffee and pepper crops spread over 2,258.55 hectares cultivated by around 2,600 coffee farmers in Chinthapalli and G.K. Veedhi mandals.

Organic certification has been awarded to the Gondipakalu, Lambasingi and Kappalu clusters in Chintapalli mandal as well as to Pedavalasa, G.K. Veedhi and Erracheruvulu clusters in G.K. Veedhi mandal. As an additional incentive for organic-certified villages, purchase price for Arabica Parchment coffee has been increased to ₹450 per kg. The price for Arabica Cherry coffee has been raised to ₹330 per kg.

The revised coffee prices are:

Coffee Type – Villages without Organic Certification – Villages with Organic Certification

Arabica Parchment ₹400 per kg ₹450 per kg

Arabica Cherry ₹250 per kg ₹330 per kg

Robusta Cherry ₹160 per kg ₹160 per kg

GCC vice chairman and managing director Kalpana Kumri said staff members have been instructed to enhance awareness among tribal coffee farmers in Paderu agency regarding the updated pricing structure to ensure that farmers do not sell their coffee at diminished rates.

She underlined, “GCC is using electronic weighing machines at farmers' doorsteps to purchase their produce. The relevant amounts are being deposited into the farmers’ accounts within 24 hours.”

Farmers can contact the GCC central office in Visakhapatnam at 7013070990 for any inquiries or complaints related to coffee purchases.
