GCC Faces Severe Staff Crunch, With 81% Of Posts Vacant

Currently, 81% of the sanctioned positions are vacant within the Commission: Reports

VISAKHAPATNAM: During a detailed review meeting on ongoing activities, Dr D.V.G. Sankara Rao, chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Scheduled Tribes Commission, on Monday discovered a severe staff shortage at the Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC) Limited. Currently, 81% of the sanctioned positions are vacant within the Commission. Moreover, a backlog of 202 applications for compassionate appointments also came to light, highlighting long-standing administrative delays.

GCC staff also reported that the deteriorating condition of Daily Requirement Depots and other structural facilities was disrupting essential operations. The meeting also identified several other administrative challenges that require immediate attention.

During his visit, senior GCC officers presented a comprehensive report on the Commission’s current initiatives. The chairman reviewed the progress made and noted key obstacles affecting efficiency and outreach to tribal communities.

Despite these challenges, Dr. Sankara Rao commended GCC for its recent achievements, which include a significant increase in Minor Forest Produce procurement and improved coffee prices that have positively impacted tribal farmers. He assured all participants that the concerns raised would be escalated to the appropriate authorities for timely resolution
