Gas bookings under Deepam 2.0 scheme cross 80.37 lakh in 42 days: Manohar

Vijayawada: Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar has said gas cylinder bookings under the Deepam 2.0 scheme crossed 80.37 lakh in 42 days of the scheme’s launch in Andhra Pradesh.

The government distributed 62.30 lakh gas cylinders for free to 58.30 lakh people and deposited `463.81 crore into the beneficiaries' bank accounts within 48 hours of the cylinder delivery,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Notably, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu launched the scheme on Nov 1, aiming to provide three free gas-filled cylinders to approximately 1.55 crore households.

Manohar said the state government released `894 crore to provide the first set of cylinders, out of the `2,684 crore required to provide three each cylinders to the beneficiaries. “The gas cylinders would be delivered within 24 hours for households in urban areas and 48 hours for households in rural areas.”
The full amount for the gas cylinder would be deposited into the beneficiaries' bank accounts within 48 hours of the gas cylinder delivery, he said.

Manohar explained that families with an LPG connection, a ration card, and an Aadhaar card linked to the ration card are eligible to book the free gas cylinders: the first cylinder from April to July, the second cylinder from August to December, and the third cylinder from December to March.

He urged beneficiaries to contact toll-free number 1967 for any grievances related to gas bookings under the scheme.
