TIRUPATI: The temple city of Tirupati witnessed the grand culmination of Ganesha festival celebrations on Sunday, with the immersion of hundreds of idols of Lord Ganesha in Vinayaka Sagar tank on the city’s outskirts. The event drew large gatherings of devotees and marked the conclusion of the five-day festivities.

From early morning, processions carrying idols of varying sizes and colours moved through the city’s main streets, accompanied by devotional slogans and traditional music, before reaching Vinayaka Sagar. Officials estimated that more than 900 idols had been installed across Tirupati this year, with immersions expected to continue till midnight under tight security.

Mayor Dr. R. Sirisha and commissioner N. Mourya performed special pujas at the idol installed in the Municipal Corporation office before leading it in a rally to Vinayaka Sagar for immersion. Earlier, the laddu prepared for the Corporation’s celebrations was auctioned for ₹3.55 lakh. The successful bid came from Engineering officials, with the laddu formally handed over to Superintendent Engineer Syam Sundar.

For smooth conduct, the Municipal Corporation, in coordination with other departments, arranged cranes, platforms and swimmers at the tank. Volunteers from the Tirupati Varasiddhi Vinayaka Utsava Committee guided processions and distributed food and drinking water to devotees.

Superintendent of Police V. Harshavardhan Raju supervised security arrangements and said that elaborate measures involving the Police, Municipal Corporation, TUDA, Fire and other departments ensured peaceful and incident-free proceedings.
