Ganesh Immersion Allowed In Handri-Neeva Canal: Bharath
Ganesh idol immersion will be allowed in the Handri-Neeva canal, with arrangements for larger idols and immersion on selected festival days based on water availability.
Arrangements will be made to facilitate Ganesh idol immersion in the Handri-Neeva canal, industries, commerce and food processing minister T.G. Bharath said.
In a statement, he said severe drought conditions had resulted in inadequate water availability at Sunkesula, making it difficult to release water into the K.C. Canal.
Officials had earlier informed a review meeting on September 2 that water could be drawn into the Handri-Neeva only until September 14 and that only small idols could be immersed.
However, following a recent review with district in-charge minister Nimmala Ramanaidu and senior irrigation officials, the situation had improved. There was a possibility of drawing water into the Handri-Neeva for another 12 to 14 days, Bharath said.
“Officials have assured that arrangements will also be made to facilitate immersion of larger idols,” he said.
Immersion could be conducted on the fifth, seventh and ninth days after installation of idols, based on water availability. He appealed to devotees to install only clay idols about one to one-and-a-half feet high to facilitate smooth immersion and protect water resources.
