G+3 Building Collapses After Excavation On Adjacent Plot

TIRUPATI: A G+3 commercial-cum-residential building collapsed on Rayalacheruvu Road in Tirupati on Wednesday after deep excavation was carried out on an adjacent plot. No deaths were reported, as occupants had been evacuated after cracks appeared on the building’s walls.
The incident occurred near Subbaiah Colony and M.R. Palli Junction. Police and municipal officials said workers had used earth-moving machinery to dig foundation trenches close to the building. The excavation was reportedly 14 to 20 feet deep and is suspected to have affected the stability of the soil and the building’s foundation.
Residents alerted municipal officials, police and fire safety personnel after hearing structural noises. The area was cordoned off and earthmovers were deployed to clear the debris and check whether anyone was trapped.
Initial reports said three people suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital. Police, however, had not officially confirmed the injuries.
