Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs 300 crore for the repair, reconstruction and modernisation of roads in six districts ahead of the 2027 Godavari Pushkarams.

Roads minister BC Janardhan Reddy said the finance department gave immediate approval for the funds following directions from the chief minister.

Road development works would be taken up across East Godavari, West Godavari, Kakinada, Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema, Polavaram and Eluru districts. As many as 78 roads covering around 431km would be developed under the programme.

Of the total allocation, Rs 185.75 crore has been earmarked for 41 state highway stretches covering 275km. Another Rs 114.25 crore would be spent on upgrading 37 major district roads extending over 155km.

The minister said the government was giving top priority to road infrastructure as the Pushkarams would witness a large influx of pilgrims. The works would be taken up on a war footing to ensure that devotees do not face traffic congestion.

He expressed confidence that the Rs 300-crore investment would substantially transform the road network around the Godavari and provide seamless connectivity during the Pushkarams. The improved infrastructure is also expected to leave a lasting impact on connectivity in the six districts beyond the religious festivities.
