Fresh Set of Policy Incentives for Green Buildings in Andhra Pradesh

Vijayawada: The state government has announced a fresh set of policy incentives to encourage construction of green buildings across the state.

The CII Indian green building council convened the IGBC Green Andhra Summit 2025 here on Thursday under the theme “Accelerating green growth in AP – towards a Net-Zero future.”

Urban development minister P Narayana, said, “With over 550 green-certified projects spanning 612 million sq-ft, and bold initiatives like the Green Hydrogen Valley, 20gw of renewable energy development and zero-budget natural farming, we are laying the foundation for a Net Zero state by 2040.”

Amaravati, he said, is being developed as a model green capital, showcasing climate resilience, smart infrastructure and clean energy. “I urge all stakeholders, from industry and academia to citizens, to join this movement and adopt UGBC green building ratings for all the upcoming projects.”

Principal secretary to urban development, Suresh Kumar, said the government has introduced dual financial incentives to promote IGBC-certified green buildings. Under this, multi-storied buildings rated Silver, Gold and Platinum will receive Impact Fee discounts of 10, 15 and 20 per cent respectively, encouraging energy-and water-efficient construction.

He said, additionally, AP RERA would offer refunds on project registration fees of 10 per cent for Silver, 15 for Gold, and 20 per cent for Platinum upon submission of the final IGBC certification at project closure.

A major highlight of the inaugural session was the signing of an agreement between Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation and CII IGBC by its MD, Rama Krishna Reddy and KS Venkatagiri, executive director of CII Indian Green Building Council.

Through this partnership, both organisations demonstrated their commitment to embedding world-class green building practices into metro rail infrastructure.

The summit saw the formalisation of a pivotal MoU between GVMC and CII IGBC, signed by SS Varma, the corporation’s additional commissioner, and KS Venkatagiri, CII green buildings council executive director. This collaboration aims to position Vizag as a leader in sustainable urban stewardship.

The scope of the MoU encompasses the implementation of IGBC’s green building frameworks within municipal projects, support for innovation in waste management, and capacity building for municipal staff in green practices.

The capital region development authority commissioner Kanna Babu, renewable energy corporation MD Kamalakar Babu addressed the delegates.
