Fresh Low-Pressure System Brewing In Bay Of Bengal; IMD Issues Alert

The meteorological analysis also shows lower tropospheric south-westerly and westerly winds prevailing over Andhra Pradesh and the Union Territory of Yanam, contributing to unstable atmospheric conditions: Reports

VISAKHAPATNAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring regions as atmospheric conditions indicate the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal around September 2.

Weather officials reported that an upper air cyclonic circulation continues to persist over the northwest Bay of Bengal, positioned off the West Bengal–Odisha coasts. This circulation system, extending between 1.5 and 5.8 kilometres above mean sea level, is tilting south-westwards with height, creating favourable conditions for system development.

The meteorological analysis also shows lower tropospheric south-westerly and westerly winds prevailing over Andhra Pradesh and the Union Territory of Yanam, contributing to unstable atmospheric conditions.

The IMD has released a five-day weather forecast, stating that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected across North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP). Strong winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph are also likely at isolated locations across NCAP, Yanam, SCAP, and Rayalaseema, along with heavy rainfall anticipated at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
