Free Surgeries for Kids Under RBSK Launched in Ongole

RBSK initiative offers corrective surgeries, speech therapy, and dental care for 30 children

Nellor: As part of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), a free medical screening and surgery initiative is being rolled out in Prakasam district on Wednesday for children suffering from cleft lip, cleft palate, and craniofacial deformities.

A special screening campaign started at the District Child Development Centre in GGH Ongole, in collaboration with Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Medical College and Smile Train Foundation. A handheld portable X-ray unit and a dermato-surgery unit were also inaugurated on the occasion.

Medical teams have identified 30 children with cleft-related conditions in the district. These children will receive free corrective surgeries, each potentially costing between Rs 1.5 to Rs 2 lakh, including up to three surgeries per child, followed by speech therapy and dental alignment treatments.

The portable TB X-ray unit, also launched at GGH, will enable the staff to conduct up to 100 X-rays per day, with necessary training provided to technicians to operate the device.

The event was attended by DMHO Dr Venkateswara Rao, GGH superintendent Dr Jamuna, Smile Train Project director Dr Srikanth, Dr Sudha Nageswara Rao of Siddhartha Dental College, and other senior medical professionals.

District Collector Smt A. Tameem Ansariya, who inaugurated the camp and interacted with parents of the children, urged the public to take full advantage of the free services being offered under RBSK.

She emphasised that the district administration is committed to ensuring accessible and high-quality healthcare for all children in need.
